It was a hot day in 2024 when Fourier first came into our lives. Found wandering near the Gericinó Prison Complex ⛓, worn out, patchy, covered in bruises and barely any fur (but full of charm), this lost little soul caught everyone's eye immediately. My girlfriend ♡ took him in and with great effort carried him to her grandmother's house, where he spent the night.
Foi num dia quente em 2024 quando Fourier apareceu pela primeira vez em nossas vidas. Encontrado vagando perto do Complexo Penitenciário de Gericinó ⛓, acabado, depenado, cheio de hematoma e com pouco pelo (mas cheio de graça), essa alminha perdida chamou a atenção de todo mundo na hora. Minha namorada ♡ o acolheu e com esforço o levou pra casa da avó, onde ele passou a noite.
I got a tearful phone call where she described her heartbreak over the little dog she had found. Right then and there I said I wanted to adopt him — on October 16th, 2024, if I'm not mistaken. She took him to the vet the next day and he got his first round of care, plus a proper bath. It was an intense day and a big decision. Best. Decision. Ever.
Recebi um telefonema choroso em que ela relatava o coração partido pela imagem do cachorrinho que ela acahra. Na hora eu falei que queria adotá-lo, dia 16 de outubro de 2024, se não me engano. Ela o levou para um vet no dia seguinte e ele tomou o primieoro round de cuidados, além de um bom banho. Foi um dia intenso e uma decisão importante. A. Melhor. Decisão. De. Todas.
That first day was also when he got his name: Fourier. Yes, after the French mathematician Jean Baptiste Joseph Fourier. After all those years applying the Fourier Transform in college for signal processing, I never imagined the greatest transform of all would be Fourier's own life!
Nesse primeiro dia foi quando ele recebeu seu nome: Fourier. Sim, o do matemático francês Jean Baptiste Joseph Fourier. Durante os anos em que passei aplicando a Transformada de Fourier na faculdade para processamento de sinais, nunca imaginei que que a maior transformada de todas seria a vida de Fourier!
The first few days were filled with gratitude. Even without knowing what to expect, Fourier quickly turned out to be a very gentle and well-behaved dog. Fourier approached every room with one paw at a time — cautious but curious. The spot under my office chair was claimed by day two. No regrets.
Os primeiros dias foram de muita gratidão. Mesmo não sabendo o que esperar, o Fourier logo se mostrou um cachorro muito dócil e comportado.[Fourier] entrava em cada cômodo uma patinha de cada vez — cauteloso mas curioso. O espaço embaixo da minha cadeira de escritório foi conquistado no segundo dia. Sem arrependimentos.
Slowly, the walls came down. His coat started growing back and his tail started wagging more. Within the very first week he had settled by my side on the couch — something that made me tear up. That was the moment we knew everything was going to be okay. ❤️
Aos poucos, as barreiras foram caindo. O pelo começou a crescer e o rabo começou a abanar mais. Logo na primeira semana ele se acomodou ao meu lado no sofá, coisa que me fez lacrimejar. Foi aí que soubemos que tudo ia ficar bem. ❤️
As the fur grew and his personality emerged, we were delighted to find that our chow-chow mix, despite his blue-stone tongue and teddy bear face, does little justice to his ancestors' reputation. He may bark at whoever approaches the other side of the door, but his primary form of aggression is the hypnotic and ceaseless wagging of his little tail.
Conforme o pelo cresceu e o temperamento se mostrou, notamos felizes que nosso chowchow viralata, embora de língua rocha e cara de ursinho de pelúcia, faz pouco juz à fama de seus antepassados. Pode até latir pra quem se aproxima do outro lado da porta, mas sua principal forma de agressão é o abano hipnóticop e incessante do seu rabinho.
Not everything was smooth sailing. After the rescue, Fourier went through a full round of vaccinations and tests. Thankfully nothing dramatic, but quite a bit of money and emotion went into his treatments over the months as he fully settled into his new routine.
Nem tudo foi mar de rosas. Após o resgate, Fourier passou por toda uma rodada de vacinações e exames. Felizmente nada dramático, mas bastante dinheiro e emoção foram dispostas aos seus tratamentos ao longos dos meses para que se adaptasse totalmente à nova rotina.
For starters, phosphate crystals were forming in his bladder. We tried several therapeutic diets, and after many months and many urine samples, we landed on a final solution: home-cooked meals! Yes, Fourier has a private chef — me. Total fighter spirit. NEW
A começar, cristais de fósforo estavam se formando em sua bechiga. Tentamos diversas raçoes terapeuticas, e, apoś muitos meses e muitas coletas de urina, chegamos a uma solução final: comida feita me casa!. Sim, o Fourier tem um cozinheiro particular (eu). Baita dum mimado. NEW
He also had issues with skin fungus. Many sores marked his coat before we could identify the cause and find a treatment. Today, Fourier gets several baths a month at home with antifungal shampoo. It's a lot of work!
Também teve problemas com fungus na pele. Muitas feridas marcaram sua pelugem até que conseguimos descobrir a causa e tratamento. Hoje, Fourier toma vários banhos mensais em casa com shampoo anti fungal. Dá trabalho!
Today, Fourier is living his absolute best life. He loves morning walks and chasing shadows he's convinced are opossums, and has a deep, unshakeable passion for his little home-cooked meal containers. He carries on with his dog life on a predictable routine, surrounded by plenty of affection from everyone around him.
Hoje, Fourier está vivendo a melhor vida possível. Ama caminhadas matinais e correr atrás de vultos que ele acha que são gambás e tem uma paixão profunda e inabalável por suas marmitinhas de comida caseira. Segue sua vidinha de cachorro tendo uma rotina previsível e muito afeto de quem está por perto.
Fourier turns heads on the street — everyone wants to pet him and asks about him, but he's a bit of a snob and doesn't always pay attention. We hope he keeps right on wagging his tail and doing his dog things for a very long time.
Fourier chama muita atenção nma rua, todos querem fazer carinho e me perguntam dele, mas ele é um pouco metido e nem sempre dá atenção. Esperamos que ele continue aqui abanando seu rabo e fazendo suas cachorrices por muito tempo.
